The Help

I have finished my book and what a sad day! When reading, I always want to know how the story will end and can't wait to finish. Then when I do, it is like I have lost my best friend who I will never see again. I have that lost feeling, what am I going to do now and I did not get all the information I was wanting to have regarding the characters in the story. This is how I felt today. I could not help but to think about how people were treated not only during the time period in which this book was written, but how I treat those who serve me when I am out in the community; sales people, waitresses, and other service providers. Am I giving them respect and the appreciation they deserve?

"The Help" was a really fun read. Oh by the way I said in an earlier post I wanted to know what Minnie put in that pie, all I can say is yuck! If you want to know what it was, read the book.

That's not your fountian

My home phone has not worked very well for six plus months, I am not sure why we keep it. I finally had the phone company send a repair man to fix it, the static had gotten so bad I just unplugged the stupid thing. Well wouldn't you know it, once he got here it worked perfectly and had a flawlessly clear connection. I think this repairman was not ready to get back out into the heat, because 45 minutes later he had done nothing to my phone, but I knew his life story.

At one point in our conversation (if you want to call it that since he was the only conversing) he started to tell me as a kid he had drank out of the wrong water fountain to have his mother stop him and tell him that fountain was for Whites only and that he was to drink from this other fountain. Since I am currently reading "The Help" I found his story even more interesting. I have never visited with someone who had experienced discrimination during this time period.

Nothing profound to say, just thought the timing was perfect and wanted to share.

The Help

Like I mentioned in my last post I have been reading "The Help". This has been a fun book and I hope you will join me. I would just die if had a nick name (Skeeter) after a pesky bug. But I admire Skeeter for wanting to do things differently, while at the same time feel sorry for her. Her mom is enough to make anyone want to run away from home! I just love Minny, she makes me laugh! She is strong willed and such a smart mouth, always speaking her mind. I can see some of myself in her and that is not necessarily a good thing. I would like to know just what she did to that chocolate pie. Now that young man that they set up with Sketter, I would like to slap his face, he is soooo rude. Got to get back to my reading, I hope you will join me.

If you are reading or have read this book I am wondering who your favorite charater is and why.

SOMETHING TO BLOG ABOUT

I am not really sure why this blog has not taken off. Could it be that the Mason's have nothing to say? I don't think so, all you have to do is read the quote book! Or is it the risk of sounding silly? That has not been a problem at family gatherings (again I must bring your attention to the family quote book). Maybe it is that we are not technology savvy in our family...hmm lets see, we all have computers and/or smart phones, nope that is not the problem.

I know, it's that we are not really sure what to blog about. Yep, that has got to be it! Well I googled family blog and I found this explanation which says it all: "The world has shrunk since the Internet has become more accessible. Blogs provide a simple way for family and friends to stay connected from different parts of the world by sharing stories, photos, videos and more." So blogging is no more than sharing! Well then, here are some ideas you might want to share you thoughts on; a book you are reading, happenings in your life (a new job, getting your arm caught in the couch, a trip you have taken, a new recipe you tried) or a photograph you took. The list is endless, be creative!

I am going to start reading "The Help" by Kathleen Stockett. I think my next blog will be about this book. You might want to join me in this journey and blog along with me. Just an idea.

I hope to be reading about your interesting thoughts soon...
